In a dynamic partnership, Astra Group brought Southway Housing Trust's vision for an inclusive Culture Corner to life through meticulously crafted signage. From stunning graphics to a captivating circular logo sign, every detail reflects Southway's EDI commitment

In the ever-evolving landscape of signage and visual branding, Astra Group was presented with a unique opportunity to collaborate with Southway Housing Trust, a not-for-profit social housing provider. Southway Housing Trust approached us with a vision to enhance their commitment to Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (EDI) through the creation of a Culture Corner – a small library celebrating protected characteristics outlined in the Equality Act 2010. This case study highlights how Astra Group translated this vision into a vibrant and meaningful physical representation.

Project Overview

  • Scope: Designing and manufacturing signage elements to complement Southway’s EDI-focused Culture Corner.
  • Materials Used: Digitally printed graphics, matt laminated vinyl, aluminum, acrylic, and precision engraving.
  • Installation: Fixed floating off the wall.

Design and Collaboration

The Culture Corner signage project was a testament to successful collaboration between Astra Group and Southway Housing Trust. Southway’s commitment to fostering an inclusive environment led to the creation of a bespoke signage system that aligned perfectly with their EDI values.

Graphics Design

Astra Group worked closely with Southway Housing to translate their vision into reality. The project included several full-color digitally printed graphics, each representing a protected characteristic under the Equality Act 2010. These graphics were meticulously designed and printed on high-quality materials, ensuring vibrant, long-lasting, and eye-catching displays.

Aluminum Circular Logo Sign

The centrepiece of the Culture Corner was a circular logo sign, a folded tray made from 2mm aluminum. The face of the sign boasted a super gloss finish, creating a visually stunning focal point. To add depth and sophistication, the folded triangle section was treated with a matte finish, expertly masked, and sprayed with both lacquers.

Engraved and Filled Text

Astra Group paid special attention to the intricate details of the signage. The white text surrounding the logo was precision-engraved and then meticulously filled with white paint, ensuring clarity and readability. This technique elevated the sign’s aesthetics and quality, reinforcing the message of inclusivity and attention to detail.

Raised Lettering

For the “Culture Corner” text, Astra Group incorporated raised lettering. These letters, were made from 5mm acrylic painted matt black and were expertly bonded to the tray. This not only enhanced the sign’s tactile appeal but also added depth and dimension to the overall design.

Installation

To achieve a modern and visually striking appearance, the signage was installed with a floating effect, creating a sense of depth and prominence on the wall. This installation method allowed the signage to seamlessly integrate with the Culture Corner while maintaining a distinct presence.

Conclusion

Astra Group’s collaboration with Southway Housing Trust on the Culture Corner signage project was a testament to the power of design, precision manufacturing, and attention to detail. The signage not only met the client’s vision but also exceeded expectations by creating a visually stunning and meaningful representation of Southway’s commitment to Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion.

As Southway Housing Trust continues its journey toward developing the best EDI-focused culture, we are honored to have played a role in transforming their vision into a tangible and impactful reality. This project stands as a testament to the potential of signage to convey powerful messages and promote inclusive environments.

At Astra Group, we take pride in our ability to bring innovative and meaningful signage solutions to life, and we look forward to future collaborations that further enrich our communities and promote positive change.
